When the car security system does not respond to the key fob, it can be disabled in other ways. But first of all, bring the remote close to the windshield opposite the steering wheel and press the off button. You can further amplify the signal with your body. To do this, hold the keychain pressed against your head or in your mouth (more effective). If it doesn't work, calm down and don't panic. Spend a minute on this stuff. In it you will find a way to help turn off the alarm on the car.
Why is the system not responding to the key fob?
The alarm on the car is not deactivated in the usual way for the following reasons:
- Too much distance. The transmitter power is not enough to transmit a signal to the control unit. Bring the key fob as close as possible and try again.
- Radio interference. The signal from the remote control can be interrupted by electromagnetic waves from other sources. Mobile phones, navigators, transmitters, security systems of nearby cars. Bring the remote control closer to the alarm control unit and try again.
- The battery has run out. Normally, the power supply in the alarm control panel does not go to zero unexpectedly. During use, this can be seen in the uncertain operation from long distances. Try disabling the alarm by placing the key fob as close to the control unit as possible. If it works, don't forget to replace the battery. It might not work next time.
- Faulty remote. The circuit inside it can fail due to shaking, impact, falling, moisture. For such cases, a spare remote control is provided with a complete set of security systems. If it's nearby, then use it.
- The battery is discharged. The energy that remains in it is not enough to trigger the relay that turns off the security system. A symptom of this malfunction is that when you press a button on the remote control, the sound of the siren changes, but does not disappear.
The reason for the failure of the system to respond to commands from the remote control may be a failure in the control unit. In this, and in most other cases, the surest way to turn off the alarm is to switch to service mode.
Methods for emergency shutdown of the alarm
You can forcefully turn off the system that does not respond to the key fob in the following ways:
- Console resuscitation.
- Vehicle de-energization.
- De-energization of the security system.
- Switching the alarm to service mode.
The latter method is provided by the functionality of any security system and is considered the most preferable in such situations. However, it is not always possible to apply it, since for this you need to know exactly the only correct sequence of actions. Most often, there is no such knowledge, and it is easier to solve the problem by other methods.
Remote control resuscitation
Disassemble the key fob and first of all inspect the place where the power source is installed. Remove oxides and corrosion. If you don't have a spare battery handy, slightly crush the old one. Sometimes it helps to temporarily boost the signal. Look around - you may be near stores where you can buy a new battery. Most likely, this will be the fastest way to disable the alarm on the car.
Additionally, it is recommended to inspect the board inside the remote control. If there are oxides on it, remove them with an alcohol-based product. At home, for prevention, you can wash the board under running water with dish detergent. It's absolutely safe. Just do not forget to first remove the battery, and after the procedure, dry the board thoroughly with a stream of warm air.
Vehicle de-energization
To do this, the car must be opened with a key. This is the only way to get into the cabin and open the hood. An alternative way is through the trunk lid. If you can’t get into the car in any way, the barbaric method always remains - through the broken side glass.
Experienced car owners are advised to break in such cases any side glass, except for the driver's one. Firstly, after fixing the problem with the alarm, you will not have to sit on the fragments. Secondly, replacing the driver's side glass is usually more expensive.
When the hood is open, it remains only to remove the terminal from the battery. The alarm will subside, and you will have time to calmly prepare for its resuscitation. Most likely, after connecting the battery, the security system will work back. To turn off the system, it must be put into service mode. Or temporarily cut off power.
De-energizing the alarm
The easiest way to do this is to pull the appropriate fuse. You can also cut the wires with which the security system is connected to the car's on-board network. A less radical method is to cut the wires leading to the system's horn emitter. After the alarm is de-energized, you should contact the specialists to find and eliminate the cause of the failure.
Disabling the alarm by transferring it to the service mode
The functionality of any security alarm system provides for the possibility of transferring the system to the service mode. This requires only three conditions:
- Access to the ignition lock.
- Valet button.
- Knowledge of the algorithm embedded in the program.
Valet mode is the service mode of the system. There is a secret button to activate it. To use this mode, you must know where this button is hidden on your car. Most often it is placed near the alarm control unit. But in some cases, it can be in a completely unexpected place for you.
As for the algorithm for switching to the service mode, it depends on the model of the security system. Below are brief cheat sheets with a sequence of actions for common alarms. In general, the procedure boils down to the fact that you need to press the service button a certain number of times with the ignition on.
Cheat sheets
Disabling the Sheriff Alarm:
- Turn on the ignition.
- Press the Valet button once.
- Switch off the ignition.
- Repeat steps 1-3.
Disabling the Pantera alarm:
- Turn on the ignition.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Switch off the ignition.
- Switch on the ignition again.
- Press and hold the Valet button for 15 seconds or until the system issues a signal to enter the service mode.
Disabling the Alligator Alarm:
- Turn on the ignition.
- Switch off the ignition.
- Switch on the ignition again.
- Within 15 seconds, press the Valet button as many times as the first digit of the service code.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3.
- Within 15 seconds, press the Valet button as many times as the second digit of the service code.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3.
The procedure for entering the service code is repeated as many times as there are digits in the service code. If you enter the wrong code three times in a row, the alarm will switch to protection mode for a while and will not respond to commands. The service code is programmed when the system is installed.
Disabling the Starline alarm:
- Turn on the ignition.
- Press the Valet button and hold it for 6 seconds.
- An audible signal and the transition of the LED indicator to the blinking mode once every 5 seconds indicates the activation of the service mode.
- Switch off the ignition.
Disabling the Tomahawk alarm:
- Within 3 seconds, turn the ignition on and off 4 times.
- If the procedure is performed correctly, the alarm will turn off.
Disabling the CENMAX HIT 320 alarm:
- Turn on the ignition.
- Press the Valet button 5 times in a row.
- Switch off the ignition.
Disable alarm FALCON TIS-010:
- Turn on the ignition.
- When the LED indicator flashes, quickly press the Valet button 3 times.
- The indicator should light up for 5 seconds, then flash slowly.
- When the number of flashes matches the number of the service code, press the Valet button.
- Repeat step 4 for all digits of the service code.
- If the input is correct, the indicator will go out and the alarm will switch to the service mode.
Disabling the alarm KGB VS-100 and KGB VS-4000:
- Turn on the ignition.
- Press the Valet button 1 time.
- The system will turn off.
If the transition to the service mode is not completed
Take your time. In no case do not press the Valet button randomly. Switch off the ignition. Make sure all doors, trunk and hood are closed. Wait one minute and try again. If it doesn’t work, turn off the alarm in other ways described in this material.
